A few FOs for Miles

Getting ready to send off the Christmas package for my granddaughter with a few knitted items for her new brother…
His Christmas stocking (a mix of several styles…basic pattern from my fifty plus year old one with some new twists to make it a little different from his sister’s):

Then the sweaters…the first a free pattern from Caron (they used country I used Simply Soft from stash…I liked doing this enough that I am making another one for his stepcousin(?) due in March; the slippers are just something I threw together out of leftover sock yarn (Dicentra Designs Solar Energy color I believe)…I hope they will still fit; they were supposed to get there before he was born but they got tucked under a cushion and not found until Thanksgiving cleaning…sigh):

And last…a pattern from the Berroco book for their new yarn Remix…I think the baby modeling it in the book is every bit as cute as the sweater itself (until of course Miles puts his on…). Made out of stash Mission Falls 1824 Cotton.

OK, I had to put together the new quilt pieces to see how big it was going to be…I am making it for my new-in-October grandson, but my husband’s got his eye on it for his recliner and I figured it could go to him if it were too big to be a “baby” quilt and I would have time to start something else for the baby…but this looks like it is going to block out to be about 39×46 or so…not a bad size…
The original pattern is Bright Star in Comfort Quilts…calls for a worsted…using Knit Picks’ Comfy Fingering on a size 4…love the fabric…it is going to need a light backing…I am thinking thin flannel…at any rate here is the picture of this work in progress…

Mittens Finished!

The Chevron Love Mittens I made for my charming stepdaughter are finished! But first, before I mail them…a picture!

Stash Quilt in Progress

I was asked for a picture of the Stash Quilt in Progress…I had fun laying it out!

Retired Officer Sock Monkey

OK…here’s the story behind this one…one of my good friends and his uncle used to terrorize each other with sock monkeys. So…I couldn’t resist making Retired Officer Sock Monkey come to life and terrorize these two…I am making another one for him…so politically incorrect as to be unpublishable but it IS fun!

Rant

Yes, yes, I’ve been knitting…just having been posting. Sorry…

Now…on to the rant. I am knitting out of a fairly new book…one that grandmothers would probably fall over…even those grandmothers that haven’t knit for a while….maybe even a long while. There are some such really basic mistakes in it that it makes me wonder if anybody test knit these things…sort of like the right side and the wrong side messed up…weird in a book you paid real money for! And no contact info for the author…I followed a few links on ravelry and there was no way to leave a message…grrr…good thing I can punt:>) (or it that tink :>)?)…

What’s your pet peeve in knitting supplies?

Gloves!

I am suddenly obsessed with gloves!  I have conquered my fear of fingers (!) and I have completed a pair of gloves in amzing time…took orders from DD for another pair, ordered another pattern…now I know what I am going to do with all that sport alpaca I bought when my old LYS (Tapestry) was closing!

Speaking of LYS closing, I understand Becky is closing my current LYS (Knitter’s Knook) and going to China to be with her husband.  I certainly understand going to actually live with your husband but I will miss Knitter’s Knook…and Becky herself…hope she’s got good Internet connections over there!

So, that makes Yarn Theory my new LYS…having spent the last month moving from Franklin County into Bedford County, this is even more appropriate.  Guess I need to find their new location, huh?  Unfortunately moving unearths ALL of your stash which is good news and bad news…but I’ll be on a yarn diet for a while to knit my way through some of this!

I’ve been concentrating on my work blog and left this one seriously unattended…sorry…

The knitting continues…

the NASCAR/Victory Junction Gang primary colors Baby Moderne Blanket has been started…currently on block 4…

started a baby guernsey in violent lime colored Organic Cotton from Blue Sky Alpacas…has been restarted twice due to counting errors in the seed stitch section…

started legwarmers in…ahem…purple and yellow…for DGD who cheerleads

started a skating set (skirt, sweater and hat) for other DGD’s American Girl doll

working on a sweater that has morphed from its original design…it was a sheep yoke sweater…now it’s a different sheep yoke sweater…who knows what it will be when it is done…

working on seven washcloths for a one a day set…

ignoring the bamboo sock languishing in the corner…

Finished several baby sweaters with no particular baby in mind.  What can I say?  I wanted something relatively small that I could actually FINISH…also finished the two school bus scarves for the DGDs…never again…never, never, ever again…unless I rewrite the pattern…from scratch…

In other words…knitting normal here!

What he said…

If you haven’t seen it yet…PLEASE…read Franklin’s blog entry for June 17th…the powerful eloquence of his entry is awe inspiring…
