Gloves!

I am suddenly obsessed with gloves!  I have conquered my fear of fingers (!) and I have completed a pair of gloves in amzing time…took orders from DD for another pair, ordered another pattern…now I know what I am going to do with all that sport alpaca I bought when my old LYS (Tapestry) was closing!

Speaking of LYS closing, I understand Becky is closing my current LYS (Knitter’s Knook) and going to China to be with her husband.  I certainly understand going to actually live with your husband but I will miss Knitter’s Knook…and Becky herself…hope she’s got good Internet connections over there!

So, that makes Yarn Theory my new LYS…having spent the last month moving from Franklin County into Bedford County, this is even more appropriate.  Guess I need to find their new location, huh?  Unfortunately moving unearths ALL of your stash which is good news and bad news…but I’ll be on a yarn diet for a while to knit my way through some of this!

Knitting ADD-the July wrap up

I’ve been concentrating on my work blog and left this one seriously unattended…sorry…

The knitting continues…

the NASCAR/Victory Junction Gang primary colors Baby Moderne Blanket has been started…currently on block 4…

started a baby guernsey in violent lime colored Organic Cotton from Blue Sky Alpacas…has been restarted twice due to counting errors in the seed stitch section…

started legwarmers in…ahem…purple and yellow…for DGD who cheerleads

started a skating set (skirt, sweater and hat) for other DGD’s American Girl doll

working on a sweater that has morphed from its original design…it was a sheep yoke sweater…now it’s a different sheep yoke sweater…who knows what it will be when it is done…

working on seven washcloths for a one a day set…

ignoring the bamboo sock languishing in the corner…

Finished several baby sweaters with no particular baby in mind.  What can I say?  I wanted something relatively small that I could actually FINISH…also finished the two school bus scarves for the DGDs…never again…never, never, ever again…unless I rewrite the pattern…from scratch…

In other words…knitting normal here!

An ah ha moment…

Old Business…the Baby and Bears Sweater is finished with the knitting part…finished with the grafting part…not finished with the weaving in of ends part…perhaps tomorrow or this weekend.  The Trekking Natura sock continues…1st cuff almost done…

New Business…I have a love hate relationship with lace…I’ve done some lace work…loved some of it, hated some of it…have to be in the right mood I thought.  I have a skein of alpaca/silk laceweight in the Happy Dance colorway from KnitPicks that I just love the yarn and I just love the color…I have been off and on working on the Town and Country scarf from Jolene Treace’s Elizabeth 1 scarf set…never really felling the love…but I’ve done a lot of work on it lately for some reason…finally got the pattern down, etc.  Then it hit me…WHAM…I really don’t like knitting with LACEWEIGHT…all of the lace I have enjoyed has been on “fatter” yarns…I prefer a little more “body” to my knitting. Good thing there isn’t too much in my stash…two more scarves planned for my daughters then NO MORE!  Why does it take me so long to figure these things out?

One step back…two steps forward…

Work continues on the Babies and Bears sweater…however, I noticed that the yarn had broken about two rows back…so I’ve been tinking (notice how close that is to stinking…)…and I found that there was a join in the yarn that hadn’t quite held…I noticed a tuft when I knit it but didn’t think anything of it at the time…sigh…next time INVESTIGATE!  Because I knew there was a break in the line, I did go back and put in a short lifeline on the stitches near the break so they wouldn’t ladder back while I was tinking…worked out very well.

At any rate…two and half rows tinked and reknit…now back to where I started, twelve rows from the end of the knitting…maybe by the weekend (of course it’s supposed to be in the 70s and 80s then…so my need for a nice heavy wool sweater might not be as great as it is when it is in the 40s…but we all know the 40s will come back…hopefully not until September though :>)).

Progress report

Well, a nasty violent virus got in the way of knitting the past few weeks…but I finished the Tofutsies socks (maybe tomorrow I will experiment with the camera)…finished half the Babies and Bears sweater and have probably a half of the other half done…and am up to block 6 on the Moderne Baby Blanket…

I have cast on the Trekking Natura (superwash wool and bamboo) that I picked up at Becky’s Grand Opening.  Very thin stuff…doing it on size 0s…72 stitches…hope it’s not too small…nothing too fancy…1″ of K1P1 ribbing followed by K5P1 for one row and K across the next…must.have.socks.on.needles….

Small steps…actual progress

Well, I am almost to the toe of the second Tofutsies sock…am hoping to have it done (and a pair finished!) by the end of the weekend.  The Babies and Bears sweater grows…in size and on me…neat construction.  I have decided that the hardest part of frogging is making the decision to do it in the first place…and I get better at it each time I do it.  With this almost bulky weight Manos, I took a size 3 needle and made a lifeline at the top of the sleeve and ripped back…worked perfectly.  I can remember times when I just ripped all the way back to the cast on because I was not adept at picking up the stitches from the right row and would get veryvery frustrated.

I have moved from block 4 to block 5 on the Moderne Baby Blanket and I have finished one whole set of pattern repeats on the sleeve (swatch) of the Men at Work sweater…one more repeat of the working men themselves should be enough to complete the sleeve…

I’m going to go work in the garden now…they are saying 80 today but 58 and drizzly by Sunday…sigh…
